Overview

This qualification is intended for learners who have completed the Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation or equivalent experience. It provides the advanced knowledge and skills required to progress toward becoming a fully qualified electrician, covering complex electrical systems and preparing learners for work in domestic, commercial, and industrial environments.

What will I learn?

  • Electrical science and principles
  • Design, installation, and commissioning of electrical systems
  • Inspection, testing, and certification of electrical installations
  • Fault diagnosis and rectification
  • Health, safety, environmental practices in the building services industry
  • Electrical system design for different settings (domestic, commercial, industrial)
  • Principles of electrical installation in accordance with current regulations (BS 7671)

Funding eligibility criteria

  • Aged 19+
  • Living in Wales

Plus, one of the following:

  • Employed (inc. agency & zero hour contracts), earning under £34,303
  • Self-employed, earning under £34,303
  • Full-time carer, earning under £34,303
  • Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

  • EAL Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Good level of maths, English, and ICT skills
  • Suitable for school leavers, career changes, or apprentices preparing for NVQ-level qualifications (please note, PLA funding not available if currently on a funded apprenticeship-programme)

Assessment

  • Online or written knowledge assessments
  • Practical tasks and assessments in workshop settings
  • Written assignments and project based learning
  • Ongoing tutor observation and completion of portfolio work

Career progression

  • Progress to the NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (on-site portfolio route)
  • Begin or complete an electrical apprenticeship
  • Work as an electricians mate, installer, or trainee electrician
  • Supports progression to roles in commercial, industrial, or domestic electrical sectors

Course dates will be discussed directly with the training provider upon successful completion of funding application. Any course dates arranged with the training provider prior to funding being secured may not be honoured – Course dates will only be confirmed once funding has been approved.
