Overview

This level 3 qualification is designed for electricians and renewable energy professionals looking to expand their skills into the rapidly growing field of Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS). Accredited by BPEC and aligned with current industry standards, the course provides the knowledge and practical competence required to safely design, install, and commission battery storage systems in accordance with UK regulations and best practice.

What will I learn?

  • Principles and components of electrical energy storage systems
  • System configurations, applications, and operating modes (e.g. on-grid, off-grid, hybrid)
  • Site assessment and system design considerations
  • Installation, commissioning, and functional testing
  • Integration with existing renewable energy systems (e.g. solar PV)
  • Regulatory compliance, safety, and risk assessment
  • Maintenance, fault finding, and system optimisation

Funding eligibility criteria

  • Aged 19+
  • Living in Wales

Plus, one of the following:

  • Employed (inc. agency & zero hour contracts)
  • Self-employed
  • Full-time carer
  • Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

  • 18th Edition (BS7671) AND
  • NVQ 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent OR
  • Electricians Gold Card OR
  • Registration with Competent Person Scheme (e.g. NAPIT, NICEIC etc.)

Assessment

Combination of theory assessment and practical evaluation. Completion of installation-related documentation. On-course assessments mapped to NOS requirements.

Career progression

  • Work as a certified battery storage system installer
  • Combine with qualifications in solar PV, EV charging, or retrofit coordination
  • Contribute to MCS-compliant installation services
  • Enhance career opportunities in the domestic and commercial renewables sector

Course dates will be discussed directly with the training provider upon successful completion of funding application. Any course dates arranged with the training provider prior to funding being secured may not be honoured – Course dates will only be confirmed once funding has been approved.
