Overview

The RTITB Rough Terrain Telescopic Handler is suitable for learners with little or no prior experience.

What will I learn?

Health & Safety legislation and operator responsibilities (e.g. HSW Act, PUWER, LOLER)
Types of Rough Terrain Telehandler and their applications
Principles of stability, balance, and load centre
Rated capacity and data plate understanding
Causes of instability and overturning
Pre-use inspection checks and defect reporting
Familiarisation with controls, instruments, and warning devices
Safe starting, stopping, steering, and parking
Manoeuvring in open and confined spaces
Load assessment and safe handling techniques
Picking up, carrying, stacking, and de-stacking loads
Stacking at ground, medium, and high levels (as applicable)
Working on ramps, gradients, and uneven surfaces
Loading and unloading vehicles safely
Pedestrian awareness and workplace hazards
Fuel / battery safety (LPG, diesel, electric)
Shutdown and end-of-shift procedures
Theory assessment
Practical driving and load-handling assessment

Aged 19+
Living in Wales

Plus, one of the following:

Employed (inc. agency & zero hour contracts), earning under £34,303
Self-employed, earning under £34,303
Full-time carer, earning under £34,303
Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. The course is suitable for those with little or no prior experience.

Assessment

A practical/theory test based on the criteria covered during the course.

Career progression

Rough Terrain Telehandlers are widely used in construction, agriculture, mining etc. The role is very versatile where the role supports many teams within a project, the majority of projects in these industries will have at least one sometimes multiple positions of this nature on site creating many job opportunities.

Course dates will be discussed directly with the training provider upon successful completion of funding application. Any course dates arranged with the training provider prior to funding being secured may not be honoured – Course dates will only be confirmed once funding has been approved.
