Overview

This level 3 qualification covers advanced level IT user skills and applications. You will complete 5 individual mandatory units:

  • Word Processing Software
  • Spreadsheet Software
  • Presentation Software
  • Database Software
  • Improving Productivity

By completing this qualification, you will develop advanced IT user knowledge and skills you need to work productively in a managerial job role that requires the expert use of common IT software applications.

What will I learn?

  • How to use IT tools to improve productivity and work more effectively, such as using automated tools and advanced features of software applications
  • How to realise the full potential of spreadsheet software to produce high-quality management information
  • How to exploit the advanced features of word processing software to enhance work, improve productivity and save time
  • How to use advanced features to create high impact presentations, and demonstrate expert presentation skills
  • How to use advanced tools available within database software to organise and manage information

  • Aged 19+
  • Living in Wales

Plus, one of the following:

  • Employed (inc. agency & zero hour contracts), earning under £34,303
  • Self-employed, earning under £34,303
  • Full-time carer, earning under £34,303
  • Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

There are no formal prerequisites for ICDL Level 3 Advanced courses, but it is strongly recommended that learners have:

  • Completed ICDL Level 2 Extra (formerly ECDL Extra) or have equivalent digital skills
  • A very good understanding of common software applications like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Assessment

60 minute closed book exam per module (5 in total) – each will include multiple choice knowledge section and hands on simulation exercises. 75% pass mark.

Career progression

After earning the ICDL Level 3 Advanced certification, individuals can progress into more specialised and higher-responsibility roles across various sectors. Common career paths include:

  • Administrative and Executive Assistant roles with advanced document, spreadsheet, and presentation skills
  • Data analyst or Bookkeeping positions, leveraging advanced Excel and database knowledge
  • IT Support or Office Systems Specialist, supporting digital workflows and troubleshooting
  • Project Coordinator or Office Manager, using productivity tools to manage teams and resources efficiently

Course dates will be discussed directly with the training provider upon successful completion of funding application. Any course dates arranged with the training provider prior to funding being secured may not be honoured – Course dates will only be confirmed once funding has been approved.
