Overview

Cert-ain certified ACS CENWAT1 assessment covering domestic gas central-heating boilers and water heaters. Validates competence to install, commission, service, and fault-find in line with current legislation and industry standards (e.g. Gas Safety (Installation & Use) Regulations, IGEM/IET guidance). Successful completion supports Gas Safe registration for these appliance categories (scheme rules apply).

What will I learn?

Appliance identification: boiler and water-heater types, flues, combustion air/ventilation basics
Installation requirements: location, clearances, flueing, condensate, pipework to appliance
Commissioning: Tightness at appliance connection, purging, burner pressure/gas rate, FGA use, controls & safety device checks
Servicing & maintenance: Cleaning, seals, electrodes, heat-exchanger care, manufacturer schedules
Fault-finding: Diagnostic approach, interpreting readings, common faults, rectification and re-test
Safety & compliance: Unsafe situations (ID/AR), warning notices, records, handover to customer
Documentation: Commissioning sheets,servicing records, client handover

Employed (inc. agency & zero hour contracts), earning under £34,303
Self-employed, earning under £34,303
Full-time carer, earning under £34,303
Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

Valid CCN1 (Core Gas Safety) (initial or re-assessment as applicable)
Current/expired-within-window CENWAT certificate (per scheme rules)

Assessment

Theory: ACS multi-choice/short answers
Practical: Observed tasks on approved assessment rigs – installation/commissioning checks, FGA tests, servicing, fault-finding, documentation

Career progression

Additional ACS appliances: CKR1 (Cookers), HTR1 (Fires), MET1 (Meters), DAH1 (Warm Air). Boiler manufacturer product courses; fault-finding masterclasses. Supervisory/QS roles; renewables bolt-ons (e.g. heat pumps, solar thermal, LPG)

Course dates will be discussed directly with the training provider upon successful completion of funding application. Any course dates arranged with the training provider prior to funding being secured may not be honoured – Course dates will only be confirmed once funding has been approved.
