Overview

Cert-ain accredited ACS CKR1 assessment covering domestic gas cookers and hobs from installation through to commissioning, servicing and fault-finding, in line with current gas safety legislation and manufacturers’ instructions. Successful completion supports Gas Safe registration for the Cookers category (scheme rules apply).

What will I learn?

  • Cooker/hob types & safety features: flame failure devices, lid shut-off, stability devices, hose/bayonet connections
  • Installation requirements: siting, ventilation considerations, clearances, housing/worktop prep, flexible connections and stability bracket/chain installation
  • Commissioning procedures: appliance tightness, gas rate/burner pressure, flame picture/operation, grill/oven function checks, user handover & documentation
  • Servicing & maintenance: scheduled service tasks, cleaning, seals/ignition checks, regulator settings (where applicable), parts replacement to MI
  • Fault-finding methodology: diagnosing and rectifying common faults; verification & retest
  • Compliance: unsafe situations (ID/AR/NS), isolation, warning notices and records

  • Aged 19+
  • Living in Wales

Plus, one of the following:

  • Employed (inc. agency & zero hour contracts), earning under £34,303
  • Self-employed, earning under £34,303
  • Full-time carer, earning under £34,303
  • Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

  • Required: Valid CCN1 (Core Domestic Gas Safety) (initial or re-assessment as applicable)
  • Re-assessment route: Current/within-window CKR1 certificate (per scheme rules)

Assessment

  • Theory: ACS multi-choice/short answers
  • Practical: Observed tasks on approved rigs – tightness testing/let-by, purging, pressure/flow checks, flue/ventilation verification, documentation and unsafe situation procedures
  • Professional discussion/oral questioning where required

Career progression

  • Boiler manufacturer product courses; fault-finding masterclasses
  • Supervisory/QS roles; renewables bolt-ons (e.g. heat pumps, solar thermal, LPG)

Course dates will be discussed directly with the training provider upon successful completion of funding application. Any course dates arranged with the training provider prior to funding being secured may not be honoured – Course dates will only be confirmed once funding has been approved.
