As the importance of data analytics grows, more job roles are required to set context and better communicate vital business intelligence. Collecting, analysing, and reporting on data can drive priorities and lead business decision-making. CompTIA Data+ is an early-career data analytics certification for professionals tasked with developing and promoting data-driven business decision-making.

The CompTIA Data+ exam will certify the successful candidate has the knowledge and skills required to transform business requirements in support of data-driven decisions through mining and manipulating data, applying basic statistical methods, and analysing complex datasets while adhering to governance and quality standards throughout the entire data life cycle.

  • Aged 19+
  • Living in Wales

Plus, one of the following:

  • Employed (inc. agency & zero hour contracts)
  • Self-employed
  • Full-time carer
  • Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

To ensure success in this course you should have 18-24 months of hands on experience working in a business intelligence, report/data analyst job role.

You should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or a spreadsheet program.

You should understand how to build basic math calculations, like add, subtract, divide, and multiply (basic arithmetic).

You should know how to build basic functions like Sums, Average, and Count

You should have a working knowledge of how to build very basic pivot tables.

You should have some understanding of databases and all knowledge toward understanding how databases designed will be helpful.

You should have a basic understanding of how to build simple charts in using data.

Assessment

  • Exam time: 90 minutes
  • Performance based and multiple-choice style: maximum of 90 questions
  • Pass mark: 675 (on a scale of 100-900)
  • Closed book exam (i.e. no reference materials are allowed during the exam)

The CompTIA Data+ certification is a recognised, vendor neutral credential that lays the groundwork for a professional data analytics career.

Career progression opportunities include:

  • Entry level roles such as Data Analyst, Reporting Analyst, Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst, Marketing Analyst, or Operations Analyst – equipping you to collect, manipulate, visualise, and report data with governance standards
  • Transition into more specialised or senior roles – like Senior Data Analyst or Clinical Analyst – as you build experience and refine your analytical skills
  • Advancement to technical and data architecture paths such as Database Administrator, Data Engineer, or Data Architect – building on data management, transformation, and systems design foundations
  • With additional experience and certifications (e.g. advanced analytics, cloud platforms, or security), progression into leadership or strategic roles such as Analytics Manager, BI Lead, or Director of Data – especially in industries driving digital transformation
