Overview

The CompTIA DataSys+ is a foundational level data management certification that focuses on the logistics of data administration and security.

The certification validates the core knowledge and skills required for IT professionals working with data systems and infrastructure. This CompTIA DataSys+ certification training provides comprehensive training covering all exam objectives to help you prepare for the DataSys+ certification exam (DS0-001).

In this training, you will gain a vendor-neutral understanding of key concepts and practices across the data flow. Through expert instruction and hands-on labs, you will learn how to work with data acquisition, processing, storage, security, analysis and more.

What will I learn?

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand and work with database fundamentals, including relational and NoSQL structures, SQL scripting, and ORM tools
  • Plan, design, implement, and test database deployments, with documentation such as ERDs and data dictionaries
  • Monitor and maintain database systems, optimising performance, applying patches, and managing redundancy, with clear operational documentation
  • Secure data and databases, using encryption, access control, governance policies, data masking, and protections against threats like SQL injection or ransomware
  • Implement business continuity strategies, including backups, disaster recovery planning, system replication and high availability measures

  • Employed (inc. agency & zero hour contracts)
  • Self-employed
  • Full-time carer
  • Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

It is recommended learners have 2-3 years of hands-on experience in a database administrator role.

Assessment

  • Exam time: 90 minutes
  • Performance based and multiple-choice style: maximum of 90 questions
  • Pass mark: 700 (on a scale of 100-900)
  • Closed book exam (i.e. no reference materials are allowed during the exam)

Career progression

The CompTIA DataSys+ certification validates practical database administration skills and provides a pathway into specialist and leadership roles in data management.

Career progression opportunities include:

  • Database Administrator, Database Analyst, or Data Operations Specialist (entry to mid-level roles)
  • Progression to positions such as Systems Database Administrator, Data Engineer, or BI Developer, supporting enterprise data platforms and analytics pipelines
  • Advancement into senior roles like Senior Database Administrator, Data Architect, or Information Systems Manager, leading large-scale data operations
  • With additional certifications and experience (e.g. Data+, cloud platform credentials, or security certifications), progression into leadership roles such as Database Manager, Director of Data Services, or Head of Data Architecture
