Overview

The LGV Category C licence, often referred to as a Class 2 HGV licence, allows you to drive large, rigid vehicles (lorries).

What will I learn?

Learners will need to complete the following steps. Big Wheelers will confirm if any steps aren’t required, as part of the onboarding call. Learners will be asked to maintain contact with Big Wheelers at all stages of the training and all steps will need to be completed with Big Wheelers – We will be unable to cover costs through any other providers. We are unable to fund resits.

  • Step 1: Apply for the provisional
  • Step 2: Complete medical (at Big Wheelers office in Cardiff)
  • Step 3: Theory test (you will be given 6 months access to Big Wheeler’s online training – Driving Test Success)
  • Step 4: Up to 20 hours practical training
  • Step 5: DSA 3A and 3B practical tests (note, learners can not proceed to 3B until they have passed 3A)
  • Step 6: Complete Driver CPC periodic training / initial CPC

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. However, it is recommended learners have a good standard of English and have driven in the UK for 2+ years.

Assessment

Assessments include theory and 2 practical tests. If passed car test after 1997, CPC will include a practical demonstration test.

Career progression

The Category C licence offers various career progression opportunities, including specialised driving roles, management positions and even training others. After gaining experience, drivers can pursue further qualifications, with the possibility also to transition into roles such as transport planner and logistics manager.

Course dates will be discussed directly with the training provider upon successful completion of funding application. Any course dates arranged with the training provider prior to funding being secured may not be honoured – Course dates will only be confirmed once funding has been approved.

What will I learn?

Learners will be asked to maintain contact with Big Wheelers at all stages of the training and all steps will need to be completed with Big Wheelers – We will be unable to cover costs through any other providers. We are unable to fund resits.
