Overview

This practical course provides learners with a strong foundation in carbon footprinting, greenhouse gas accounting, and environmental reporting. It is ideal for professionals responsible for sustainability, net zero planning, or environmental performance, and supports organisations aiming to comply with carbon reporting requirements such as PPN 06/21 and SECR.

What will I learn?

  • The principles of carbon footprinting and greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting
  • How to apply the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064 standards
  • Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions explained, with real-world examples
  • Data collection techniques and common challenges
  • How to calculate carbon emissions for various business activities
  • Understanding reporting requirements and frameworks
  • Creating a basic carbon footprint report for an organisation
  • Using footprint data to inform strategy and drive reductions

Funding eligibility criteria

  • Aged 19+
  • Living in Wales

Plus, one of the following:

  • Employed (inc. agency & zero hour contracts),
  • Self-employed,
  • Full-time carer,
  • Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. The course is suitable for those with little or no prior experience in carbon accounting. Although, a basic understanding of environmental issues is helpful.

Assessment

Short online assessment comprising multiple-choice and practical calculation tasks. Learners will also complete a basic carbon footprinting exercise as part of the course.

Career progression

Learners will be able to:

  • Support organisational carbon reporting and compliance
  • Contribute to Net Zero planning and strategy
  • Progress to more advanced courses such as the ISEP Certificate or IEMA Net Zero courses
  • Develop further expertise in Scope 3, LCA or carbon reduction planning

Course dates will be discussed directly with the training provider upon successful completion of funding application. Any course dates arranged with the training provider prior to funding being secured may not be honoured – Course dates will only be confirmed once funding has been approved.
