Overview

This qualification provides learners with the knowledge and skills required to carry out energy assessments of domestic properties. It supports entry into the role of a Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA), producing Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) in line with current legislation and industry standards.

What will I learn?

Learners will develop knowledge and practical skills in:

Understanding energy efficiency in domestic dwellings
Building construction, insulation and heating systems
Collecting and recording property data
Using RdSAP software to produce Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs)
Understanding legal requirements and professional responsibilities of a DEA
Health and safety considerations when carrying out property assessments

Funding eligibility criteria

Aged 19+
Living in Wales

Plus, one of the following:

Employed (inc. agency & zero hour contracts), earning under £34,303
Self-employed, earning under £34,303
Full-time carer, earning under £34, 303
Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

Basic IT skills are recommended
Good level of English and Maths (typically Level 2 or equivalent)
No prior experience required, but knowledge of construction or housing is beneficial

Assessment

Portfolio of evidence
Practical assessments (including property surveys)
Assignments and/or knowledge-based tasks

Career progression

Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA)
Energy Advisor
Retrofit Assessor
Progression to Level 4 qualifications in energy assessment or retrofit coordination
Opportunities within housing, construction, and sustainability sectors
