Overview

An OFQUAL qualification in compliance with PAS 2035:2023. This course was developed to give a clear understanding of the different approach needed when retrofitting pre-1919 buildings.

What will I learn?

Understanding the chronology, building styles, age and characteristics of traditional (pre-1919) buildings
Be able to assess options for the introduction of energy efficiency measures
Making recommendations and giving advice on the introduction of energy efficiency measures and compliance if a protected building
Know how the thermal performance and energy efficiency of traditional buildings can be assessed
Understanding the impact of the installation of retrofit energy efficiency measures to traditional buildings and installation of energy efficiency measures in relationship to craft occupations
Understanding the range of available energy efficiency systems and measures available
Understanding of which materials are not compatible with traditional buildings and could have unintended consequences if used

Funding eligibility criteria

Aged 19+
Living in Wales

Plus, one of the following:

Employed (inc. agency & zero hour contracts),
Self-employed,
Full-time carer,
Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

Age 18+ (19+ if accessing through PLA funding). It is helpful to have some experience in property or construction but not essential. You will be asked to complete a skills scan to evaluate knowledge level and support needs.

Assessment

Online exam.

Career progression

This qualification is a mandatory requirement for retrofit co-ordinators, assessors and evaluators. It is also required for designers unless they are conservation accredited. Over one-third of UK buildings are of traditional construction so this qualification opens up new employment and career progression opportunities.

Course dates will be discussed directly with the training provider upon successful completion of funding application. Any course dates arranged with the training provider prior to funding being secured may not be honoured – Course dates will only be confirmed once funding has been approved.
