Overview

The RTITB Safety in Slinging and Signalling is suitable for learners with little or no prior experience.

What will I learn?

Pre-use inspection: Rigging gear (chains, slings) must be checked for damage, wear, or defects before and after each use
Load assessment: Correctly identifying the weight and center of gravity of the load is critical to ensure proper lifting, balancing, and to avoid overloading
Proper slinging techniques: Attaching and detaching loads securely according to the lifting plan, with specialised knowledge of different rigging types (rope, wire, synthetic, chain)
Standardised signalling: Using a consistent, agreed-upon, and clear set of signals with the crane operator for movements (e.g. hoist, slew, stop, emergency stop)
Clear communication: Ensuring only one designated, trained person gives signals to the operator

Full-time carer, earning under £34,303
Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. The course is suitable for those with little or no prior experience.

Assessment

A practical/theory test based on the criteria covered during the course.

Career progression

The career progression typically moves from entry-level Slinger Signaller to site-specific training to advanced, certified roles like Crane Supervisor or Appointed Person.

Course dates will be discussed directly with the training provider upon successful completion of funding application. Any course dates arranged with the training provider prior to funding being secured may not be honoured – Course dates will only be confirmed once funding has been approved.
