HNC in Cyber Security

In a world where cyber security plays an increasingly important role, where security breaches affecting our personal data occur on a regular basis this course aims to equip learners with both the technical knowledge and the theoretical knowledge needed, such as Cyber Security Tools and Techniques, Programming for Cyber Security and other modules to help gain an understanding what is needed to protect against these daily threats and to progress to a career in cyber security.

This course is suited to those seeking a career within the cyber security industry or are already working within the Computing or IT sector and looking to improve on their current skillset.


The course will be delivered via a mixture of lectures, tutorials and laboratory work. This course comprises of one evening per week, although this does have some flexibility to allow students and their employers to study at their selected rate*.

This course complements the priority sector (e.g. Cyber Security) within the Cardiff Capital Region. The region has seen significant regeneration and investment over recent decades to redevelop heavy industrial areas and to create new business parks, housing and recreational initiatives.

Entry Requirements

Coleg y Cymoedd considers all applications on an individual basis which means that we could make offers based on qualifications, personal profile and experience.

Combinations of qualifications are acceptable and other qualifications not listed may also be acceptable.

Typical A-Level Offer - DD to include Mathematics or a Science subject

Typical BTEC Offer -BTEC Extended Diploma Pass Pass Pass or BTEC Diploma Pass Pass


Additional Requirements
GCSEs: The University normally requires a minimum 3 GCSEs including Mathematics and English at Grade C/Grade 4 or above, or their equivalent but consideration is given to individual circumstances.

You will be invited to attend an interview with one of the Computing team.

Assessment

You will be assessed through multiple forms of assessment such as, practical based work, essay writing, portfolio based work and onsite timed assessment.

Career Progression

Learners who complete this course can expect to progress into a field that is in high demand worldwide. Career paths could include technical roles such as,
• penetration tester
• secure software developer
• network security administrator.

Upon completion you will be able to look for roles with law enforcement, government agencies, security consultancies and commercial IT departments.

From the HNC you will be able to progress onto the HND Cyber Security, where from there you will be able to ‘top up’ to a full degree in Cyber Security.
