Learner honoured by The Worshipful Livery Company of Wales

Congratulations to Finn Keegan who has been honoured by The Worshipful Livery Company of Wales and awarded the Financial Literacy Improvement Award in recognition of their progress this year.

Alongside his Foundation Carpentry and Joinery course, Finn attends weekly Maths and Numeracy sessions and was nominated by his tutors for this award after impressing them with his incredible work ethic.

Rachel Edmonds-Naish, Assistant Principal said “Finn arrived at college with an E grade in maths GCSE and very little confidence in his abilities. Nevertheless, he put in an incredible amoLearnerunt of work (as well as studying for his main programme) and in the summer of 2023 he achieved a D grade – his result was very close to the C grade border so he returned and tried again!

The maths team were impressed by his work ethic – he re-sat his GCSE, studied on his main programme and also took an additional numeracy qualification. He gained his C grade (and was close to the B grade!) in summer 2024 and returned to college in September 2024 progressing to the construction qualification that he had originally aspired to.

He is now studying for the qualification that will give him access to an apprenticeship pathway.

said “we really congratulate Finn on his progress and achievements. One of the main objectives of The Worshipful Livery Company of Wales is to promote education in Wales, and Finn’s achievements are exactly that”.
