Personal Learning Accounts (PLA)

The Personal Learning Account (PLA) funding programme provides financial support across Wales to enhance career opportunities and earnings potential. Eligibility is tested at the point of application. You must meet the following criteria, to be eligible for the funding:

• Living in Wales
• Aged 19+ (tested at point of course commencement)

In additional, you must meet one of the following criteria:

• Employed (inc. agency and zero-hour contracts), earning under £34,303*
• Self-employed, earning under £34,303*
• Full-time carer (inc. non-paid)
• Prisoner on day release

Applicants are deemed ineligible if they meet any of the following:

• Under the age of 19
• An ineligible overseas national
• Unemployed (i.e. do not have a contract of employment)
• Attending school, full-time further-education or any higher-education
• In receipt of an Assembly Learning Grant or Education Maintenance Allowance
• In Medr funded Work Based Learning

*All courses under the Digital and Green funding strands will not include earning threshold criteria – Please check eligibility tab on course page for further information. If you are accessing PLA funding through the Tata strand, additional criteria will require you to be an employee of Tata Steel UK or their supply chain (no earning threshold) – full details can be found on the Tata PLA funding Training Plan.
